The 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur will be held at the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis. The United States Golf Association will make the formal announcement Wednesday.

"The USGA is thrilled to be bringing our Senior Amateur Championship to a venue so rich in tradition and championship history," said Ben Kimball, director of U.S. Women's Open and U.S. Amateur Championships. "The Minikahda Club has always been a great supporter of amateur golf and we look forward to challenging the best senior amateur players in the world on this classic venue come 2017."

Minikahda has held five USGA championships, including the 1916 U.S. Open, won by Charles "Chick" Evans Jr.; the 1927 U.S. Amateur, won by Bobby Jones; and the 1988 U.S. Women's Amateur, won by Pearl Sinn. The others were the 1957 Walker Cup and the 1998 Curtis Cup.

"The Minikahda Club is proud to continue its support of amateur golf as the host of the 2017 USGA Senior Amateur," said Jim Jennings, general manager of The Minikahda Club. "The Senior Amateur will mark 101 years since Minikahda hosted the 1916 U.S. Open. Players today will find the course challenging and enjoyable and the hospitality of the membership unsurpassed."

The 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur will be Aug. 26-31.

State hockey schools plan tournament The state's five Division I hockey programs are near finalizing an agreement to play in a four-team tournament in future seasons at Xcel Energy Center, Gophers athletic director Joel Maturi said.

In 2013-14, the five schools, all now in the WCHA, will be in three different conferences. The Gophers will be in the Big Ten, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and Bemidji State and Minnesota State Mankato will remain in the WCHA.

"We are very close to getting it done," Maturi said. "It will be at the Xcel, that is what we are considering right now."

Maturi said Saturday that the five schools have all agreed to the general format, but nothing has been signed and a formal name has not been agreed upon.
