MILWAUKEE — Several Milwaukee-based media organizations are launching an initiative to humanize the local issue of gun violence.

The two-year radio and Internet campaign called Precious Lives begins Tuesday. Five-to-seven-minute stories highlighting real acts of gun violence will air weekly on two local radio stations.

Brad Lichtenstein of 371 Productions tells WISN-TV (http://bit.ly/1u1zOHG ) that the effort aims to put a face to both the victims and shooters so people can better understand how these crimes happen.

The campaign's partners believe gun violence can be discouraged by humanizing victims to the point that it would change a potential shooter's decision to commit a crime.

The project is funded by the Helen Bader Foundation and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
