February 12, 2011 at 8:25PM

Milder air pouring into the Northeast during the next couple of days may foolresidents into thinking that the much anticipated warm-up has arrived. Theregion, however, will endure another cold blast before the major thaw finallycommences later next week.Temperatures will progressively warm across the mid-Atlantic and southern NewEngland Sunday into Monday, while accumulating snow passes by to the north.

Despite being temporary, this milder air will still feel pleasant to thesesnow- and cold-weary regions. Temperatures on Valentine's Day will rise intothe 40s as far north as Boston, while New York City flirts with the 50-degreemark.

"Valentine's Day is expected to be the first time that the temperature climbsabove 50 degrees in Philadelphia since Jan. 2, 2011," AccuWeather.comMeteorologist Meghan Evans stated.

Evans added, "However, cold winds will blast all the way to the Northeast andmid-Atlantic coast by the evening and overnight (of Monday), so those headingout for a romantic event should prepare with a warmer jacket."The cold air Evans is referring to will shave roughly 10 degrees off hightemperatures from Monday to Tuesday. Brisk winds will create even colderAccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures.

The danger also exists for runoff from melting snow to turn icy on untreatedroads and sidewalks Monday and Tuesday nights.

The Northeast, however, will not have to wait long for temperatures to rebound.

The much anticipated warm-up that will bring nearly a 100-degree temperaturejump across parts of the southern Plains will grace the entire NortheastWednesday into Friday.

Once the warmer air arrives, temperatures should end up in the 60s inPhiladelphia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
