Midwestern Warmth

September 14, 2009 at 12:25PM

An area of high pressure settling in over Minnesota today will bring a warm, dry and mostly sunny day to a large portion of the Midwest and northern Plains. The high will help hold the wet weather that is currently drenching the lowerMississippi Valley and parts of the Southeast out of the area.

Warm air will also flow freely into region, allowing temperatures to rise intothe 80s throughout much of the region today. Temperatures will soar into the90s in parts of western South Dakota, where highs are usually in the upper 70sduring this time of the year.

A bit of cooler air will begin to invade the Great Lakes Tuesday, but the heatwill persist over the northern Plains.
