The weekend will end with the Midwest enjoying a break from the bitter coldthat has been in control more often than not this winter. The milder air, however, will come at a cost for some.As the jet stream lifts northward and confines arctic air to Canada, mosttemperatures from the northern Plains to the Great Lakes on Sunday will rise 10to 20 degrees above Saturday's chilly highs.
That means temperatures in the 20s will replace Saturday's single-digit highsin Fargo, while St. Louis enjoys highs in the 60s instead of the 40-degreechill that started the weekend.
The surge of mild air across the Ohio Valley will come at a cost--in the formof severe thunderstorms and flooding rain Sunday night into Monday.
