If you do not have go anywhere across the Upper Midwest today, it is best ifyou just stay at home. The fierce snowstorm that dropped up to 5 feet of snowover the Sierra and Rockies Monday, then spread record-setting snow over thecentral Plains Tuesday, has reached the Great Lakes. Across northern andwestern areas, falling snow will continue to clog roadways today. Gusty windswill worsen the situation by whipping the snow around, resulting in poorvisibility.Falling snow will taper off over the rest of the Upper Midwest. That does notmean conditions will improve today. Winds howling between 50 and 60 mph willseverely blow and drift the snow that is currently covering the ground.
Whiteouts will result as the snow gets blown around. Road crews will havedifficulty keeping roadways and interstates clear of the drifting snow. Someroads may become impassible.
The blowing and drifting snow threatens to also severely impact airlinepassengers. Lengthy flight delays and cancellations are expected.
