Midway driver's license office to move

February 21, 2009 at 1:57AM

After several decades, the Midway area of St. Paul is losing a driver's license office.

The office at 1472 University Av., will close at noon March 26. It will reopen March 30 in a new downtown facility at 445 Minnesota St.

The purpose is to offer more efficient service, said Kristine Chapin, spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety's driver and vehicle services division. The new office will offer driver's license, ID, written testing, driver evaluation, records, dealer and motor carrier operations. It won't handle vehicle registration or license plates or behind-the-wheel testing.

Other metro-area exam stations are in Anoka, Arden Hills, Chaska, Eagan and Plymouth. For more information, including transit options to downtown, go to www.mndriveinfo.org.
