Bicyclists who use the Midtown Greenway crossing at 28th Street and Hiawatha Avenue will encounter a week-long detour beginning today.

Crews from Xcel Energy will block off the popular trail as they continue working on the Hiawatha Transmission Project. That projects consits of two 115-kilovolt underground transmission lines that will run along E. 28th Street. The lines will connect a new substation near Hiawatha with one being built about 1.5 miles away on Oakland Avenue S.

The Midtown Greenway crossing is expected to reopen on Friday.

During the closure, bicyclists will be rerouted by way of a marked detour. The Sabo Bridge will remain open during the closure.
