A small segment of the Midtown Greenway will be closed Wednesday through Friday and again Monday through next Wednesday to allow Xcel Energy to install new transmission towers.

Bicyclists and pedestrians will not be allowed to use the trail between Hiawatha Avenue and Minnehaha Avenue S. During the closure, the suggested detour is to use the LRT Trail parallel to the Blue Line to 26th Street and the Minnehaha Avenue.

The trail will be open to users on Saturday and Sunday.

The closure is associated with the Hiawatha Transmission Project. That consists of two 115-kilovolt underground transmission lines being installed along E. 28th Street. The 1.5 mile-long lines will connect to a new substation near the Hiawatha corridor and another new substation at Oakland Avenue.

A map of the detour is available on the Minneapolis biking page.
