MidNorth Mercantile

Minneapolis' Warehouse District has become a shopping destination, thanks to new stores such as Arrow and Askov Finlayson and a newly expanded martinpatrick3. December brought MidNorth Mercantile, the brainchild of one Mustache Mike (real name: Mike Ader). It's one part old-timey barbershop parlor and one part menswear shop, with refurbished vintage military uniforms, hunting boots and hardy, American-made knits and woolens that appeal to the rugged blue-collar "heritage" aesthetic. Plus: trendy items such as varsity jackets and camouflage, half-frame Wayfarer eyeglasses and bowties. Barber services include cuts, hot towel shaves, beard and mustache trims, grooming consults and "old-school tapers." (217 5th Av. N., Mpls. 612-817-1777 or www.midnorth mercantile.us.)

Seafarer is coming

Seafarer started in the late 19th century, dressing American sailors. The high-waisted, flared pants enjoyed a resurgence in the '60s and '70s thanks to Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin. After being acquired by new investors, the brand is being relaunched. Arrow will carry two styles of the pant -- one in dark denim, one in a lighter blue wash -- which will retail for around $240 beginning in late January or early February.
