The same storm that will bring flooding rain to the southern Plains today willspread snow and ice across the central Plains through the end of the week. Asthe system presses through the Southeast Friday into Saturday, the mid-Atlanticwill once again face a major winter storm.Heavy snow will bury a swath from the Ohio River Valley to the storm-wearymid-Atlantic. Travel will become difficult if not impossible in towns andcities including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City, as snowpiles up early this weekend.

Several inches of snow could blanket parts of southern New England before thestorm sweeps out to sea during the latter half of the weekend.
