Michael Keaton is set to star in an adaptation of the late Vince Flynn's bestselling novel series "American Assassin."
The film will be based on the Minnesotan's thriller novels featuring Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Keaton). He's training a CIA black-ops recruit when the pair are dispatched on a mission to stop an operative from starting World War III in the Middle East.
"American Assassin" is one of 14 novels set in the world of star character Mitch Rapp (Hurley being his mentor). All books have been on the New York Times bestseller list.
Keaton is hot off "Spotlight," which won the Oscar for best picture.
The St. Paul-based Flynn died in 2013 after a 2½-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 47.
