Joe Jackson, who was famously estranged from the late pop legend, was on hand Wednesday in Gary, Ind., for the city's announcement about $300 million in developments centered on its famous son.
The city "will break ground as early as next year" on the Jackson Family Museum and and Hotel and the Michael Jackson Performing Arts and Cultural Center, the Associated Press reports. As for that $300 million - the city said investors and donations will take care of it.
Joe Jackson, perhaps the world's most relentless stage parent who Michael said beat him and his siblings severely in their childhoods, told the AP he was involved to carry "out his legacy."
Apparently the city of Gary is hoping the pop star's legacy will be enough to pull it out of its chronic economic malaise. Maybe Joe can sell that bling he got off Flavor Flav as seed money.
