African Forms
Continuing: To mark its 30th anniversary, Mhiripiri Gallery, the Twin Cities' longest-running African art venue, has staged a major exhibition of more than 200 African masks and wooden statuary from 17 countries and 35 tribes. The display features elaborately carved, polished and otherwise ornamented masks from the Ivory Coast, including pieces from the Senufo, Yuro, Baule, Dan and Yaure people (the 18-inch-tall "Birds Sharing Frog" mask shown here was made by a Yaure artisan); the Bamoum of Cameroon; and the Songye, Konko and Pende of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
