A Metro Transit bus veered off the road and crashed in south Minneapolis this morning, injuring six passengers and the driver.

The driver of a westbound Route 17 bus apparently became unconscious while driving on Lake Street around Excelsior Blvd. near Lake Calhoun, said Metro Transit spokesman Drew Kerr.

The bus crashed into bushes around 6:40 a.m. A driver in a bus following behind saw the accident and called police.

Ambulances took the victims to Hennepin County Medical Center. None of the injuries were serious, just bumps and bruises, Kerr said.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
