April 26 is the date set for the memorial for Charles Nolte, the international stage and screen actor who also directed, wrote and taught in the Twin Cities for more than three decades. He died January 14 in Minneapolis.

The service will be held April 26 at 6 p.m. in the Rarig Center at the University of Minnesota, 330 S. 21st Av., Minneapolis.

A Duluth, Minn.-born Navy veteran and Yale graduate, Nolte acted on Broadway in the 1940s and '50s in companies that featured such stars as Maureen Stapleton, Tony Randall, Eli Wallach, Charlton Heston and Henry Fonda.

He taught at the University of Minnesota from the 1960s until the 1990s where he mentored generations of theater artists. In fact, four of his former students founded the Playwrights' Center, now one of the nation's most important places for the development of new works.
