Despite being accused of multiple forms of abuse, the husband of former Spice Girl Mel B is seeking spousal support from his alleged victim.
Court papers obtained by TheWrap indicate that Stephen Belafonte is asking for spousal support in the couple's divorce proceeding.
The court papers, signed by Belafonte on April 3, also ask that the court's ability to award the former Spice Girl — real name: Melanie Brown — spousal support.
Belafonte, who lists the reason for divorce as "irreconcilable differences," is also seeking joint custody of the couple's five-year-old daughter, Madison Brown Belafonte.
As reported by TheWrap earlier this week, Brown made a host of explosive allegations against her estranged husband in court papers filed Monday, claiming that Belafonte has been physically, emotionally and verbally abusive to her, and coerced her into having threeway sexual encounters by threatening to release "compromising" videos of the singer.
Brown obtained a restraining order against Belafonte. In a declaration accompanying the request for the restraining order, Brown said that, when the two married in June 2007, she was pregnant with her second child (not his), and she was "vulnerable" with "very low" self-esteem.
