Authorities have identified a 26-year-old Brooklyn Center man who died by suicide after leading officers on a chase Saturday in the north metro.

Michaellee Ramos Avieda, who was a suspect in a Minneapolis shooting, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a Wednesday news release from the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

The pursuit started after Sherburne County deputies and Big Lake police officers saw a vehicle heading east on Hwy. 10 in Big Lake that matched the description of one from a shooting earlier in the day.

Police used various maneuvers to try to halt the vehicle. At one point, Avieda shot at police, according to the release.

Avieda's vehicle then "left the roadway," crossed into lanes with oncoming traffic and crashed through a barrier before it stopped near NW. Proctor Avenue and Hwy. 10 in Elk River. Police found Avieda dead in the vehicle.

Elk River police were also involved in the pursuit.

In the Minneapolis shooting, witnesses reported gunfire between two men, one of whom was Avieda, in an apartment building near S. 9th Street and LaSalle Avenue. The other man involved was treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
