Before his final high school match was even a minute old, Apple Valley's Destin McCauley wrapped up one of the finest careers in Minnesota wrestling history.
He pinned Rosemount's Adam Jackson in 59 seconds Friday, then celebrated by doing a wrist-turning dance move made popular by Washington Wizards basketball player John Wall.
One last bit of glory in front of a home crowd -- and then it was over.
"Just like that," McCauley said soon afterward. "It's all kind of hitting me. I didn't get my overall goal of being a six-time [champion]. I'm disappointed with that, but this is awesome."
McCauley is the state's fourth five-time state champion and first from the big school class. Frazee's Matt Nagel (1997-2001), and Eric (1999-2003) and Zach (2003-07) Sanders of Wabasha-Kellogg were also five-time champs in their careers.
"That means a lot," McCauley said. "I really am overjoyed right now."
McCauley dominated at every turn in high school, losing just seven times. The last came in the championship match in 2009. He won every match since.
Jackson, a junior, lost just three times this year -- all to McCauley. He didn't even make state last season, and had little trouble walking off the mat as runner-up to McCauley.
