Remember when I promised not to write about the weather unless it rained. Well, it's raining.

Not sure how this will effect today's bullpen sessions, but pitchers need to get their work in. I'm guessing the batting cages would be used for mound sessions if need be. The radar suggests that the rain might stop soon, but the field will need time to dry. There's a tarp on the mounds in the bullpen, so it wouldn't take long to get those prepared to be used.

Anyway, Joe Mauer has arrived in camp today and is scheduled to meet with the media following the workout. Mauer had kept a low profile during the offseason until he indicated that he suffered from blurred vision at times last season and that he was going to try to make some adjustments during camp.

I contacted Mauer right after the comments were reported, and he declined to comment any further. He didn't think what he said was that big of a deal, and that it was blown out of proportion. I'm not sure what to think of this. I would assume that if Mauer was bothered that much by blurriness that he would alert the medical staff and not get in a batter's box until he didn't have to worry about being clobbered with a thrown baseball.

Hopefully No. 7 can clarify his statements later today. Can't wait for the fan reaction.

Adam Brett Walker was on the field very early this morning, working on his throwing. The man is put together and can hit a ball a very long way. But he needs to work on his outfield skills.

Ervin Santana is among the pitchers scheduled to throw a bullpen session today. He planned to wear the new protective head gear that MLB is making available to pitchers as part of an ongoing effort to protect them against head injuries. Take a helmet and cut the top of it to make it look like a funky visor, that what this contraption looks like. It weighs between 10-12 ounces and has a carbon fiber shell.

Apparently, Santana is one of about 20 players in the league who have agreed to test the headgear this spring.

Today's bullpen groups:

Santana, Berrios, Randy Rosario, Pressly, Myers, Reed

Gibson, Jepsen, Kintzler, Darnell, Melotakis

Hughes, May, Dean, Abad, O'Rourke
