Matthew McConaughey is playing a lawyer in his next movie, and he's practically a JD himself:

No disrespect intended for a fine actor who'll probably do a great job with the role, but "wanting to study law" isn't exactly method-actor-level preparation for the character.

Series creator Michael Connolly thought he'd be good for the role, but not if he has the Texas accent. Mickey wasn't from the south, if I recall. It's a good series, as is Connolly's other character, Harry Bosch, but be warned that the two series intersect at some point, and if you ask some fans, well:
