Marty pulls out of governor's race

Too far behind leaders to catch up, he says

Sen. John Marty, concluding he was too far behind in the race for the DFL endorsement for governor, pulled out shortly after 6 p.m. "I think we changed the course of the debate," Marty, one of the most liberal members of the Legislature, told delegates in a concession speech in which he thanked the delegates. "I'm going back to the Senate, if the Senate will have me."
