A student from Minnesota State University, Mankato, who injured in a car-pedestrian accident that killed one of her classmates, remains in fair condition, a spokesman for Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato said this morning.

Corinne Overstate, 21, a junior psychology major from Loretto, Minn., suffered broken bones in her lower back and pelvis when she was hit by a car while walking home from an off-campus sorority gathering on Nov. 18.

Her friend, Rissa J. Amen-Reif, a senior from Eden Prairie, was killed in the accident.

The two had left a school-sponsored semi-formal and apparently got lost far from their destination. Amen-Reif apparently fell in the street and Overstake was helping her get up when they were struck at 12:47 a.m. by a car driven by a 17-year-old boy.

The accident remains under investigation.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
