Manhunt ends with arrest of Faribault man suspected in girlfriend's stabbing

An overnight manhunt for a Faribault man suspected of stabbing his girlfriend several times and fleeing in a stolen car ended Sunday afternoon in southern Minnesota.

Authorities said Shane Alan Wilson, 27, was arrested about 1 p.m. in rural Steele County after being spotted in a field by a citizen. He was covered in mud and suffering from hypothermia, said Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen.

Wilson was taken to a hospital.

Earlier Sunday, authorities had asked for the public's help in the search for Wilson, who they said was armed and dangerous.

According to the Faribault Police Department:

About 4:30 p.m. Saturday, officers found a vehicle stalled on the road near the police station in Faribault. The driver, a 26-year-old woman, was unresponsive, and officers saw she had been stabbed multiple times.

Two young children were also in the vehicle. They were unharmed.

The woman and a witness indicated that the stabbing stemmed from an earlier domestic incident in Faribault involving the victim and Wilson.

He reportedly fled the area in his vehicle.

At 5:04 p.m. Saturday, police in Owatonna, about 20 miles south of Faribault, received a report that a 2001 Chevrolet Impala had been stolen. ­Wilson's vehicle was found nearby.

About an hour later, Steele County sheriff's deputies responded to a vehicle fire on a rural gravel road south of Hwy. 14, on the border of Steele and Waseca counties. The vehicle, engulfed in flames, was believed to be the stolen Impala. It was unoccupied.

Authorities then used a canine team and a helicopter from the Minnesota State Patrol to look for Wilson. They searched the area and farms within walking distance of the burned-out vehicle but did not find Wilson until Sunday afternoon.
