A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the gunshot slaying of a St. Paul National Guardsman last Monday.

Brandon J. Horst, 25, was found dead inside his home in the 400 block of Bellows Street on the West Side about 1 a.m. Monday.

Charges are expected Monday against his wife, who is 24, and a 25-year-old man from South St. Paul, according to St. Paul police spokesman Howie Padilla.

The Star Tribune generally does not publish the names of suspects before they are charged.

The male suspect has an extensive criminal history that includes convictions for thefts, burglary, terroristic threats, receiving stolen property and carrying a pistol without a permit. The suspects are being held in the Ramsey County Detention Center on suspicion of homicide, pending initial court appearances on Monday.

Horst worked as a private security guard, according to industry publications, and was a sergeant with the Minnesota National Guard's 133rd Security Force Squadron.

Police were not releasing details about the relationship between the two suspects or about what may have motivated the slaying.

Horst and his wife, who was booked into the county jail under her maiden name, bought their three-bedroom home at 468 Bellows St. two years ago, property records show.
