St. Paul police announced Thursday that a man wanted for stabbing his girlfriend in front of her young son has been arrested.

Damien T. Jones, 42, was charged earlier in the week in Ramsey County District Court with first-degree attempted murder and second-degree attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend several times as her 5-year-old son tried to help her.

Jones was arrested in Brooklyn Park without incident Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to the charges, police who responded to the woman's house in the 800 block of E. 6th Street about 2:21 a.m. Tuesday discovered a bloody scene and the scared child. The boy repeatedly told police that he thought Jones had killed his mother.

The boy was not hurt, but his mother was bleeding heavily from her neck, upper torso and large cuts on her arms. She told police that Jones stabbed her with a pocketknife because she wanted to break up. Jones fled after the attack.

Another woman who had dated Jones told police that he called her and confessed to the attack, according to the complaint.
