Man shot, killed in Minneapolis North Side home; suspect in custody

May 11, 2013 at 11:47AM

A man was shot to death in a north Minneapolis home Friday afternoon.

Officers responded shortly before 4 p.m. to a call of shots fired in the home on the 2900 block of Girard Avenue N. They found one man dead inside.

The suspect, who was known to victim, was arrested a short time later and remained in custody Friday night.

The shooting was the third critical incident of the afternoon for Minneapolis police, following the fatal shooting of a burglary suspect in south Minneapolis in which two officers also were shot, and the death of a motorcycle driver in a collision with police driving to assist in the burglary and shootings.

At a news conference Friday night, police Chief Janeé Harteau did not name the suspect or the victim in the North Side homicide but said the public was not in danger. The incident is under investigation.
