Man shot and wounded by police in Medina

Medina police shot and wounded a suicidal man who was wielding a knife on Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of a suicidal man at the Ling Inn Motel, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. When they arrived, the officers encountered the man, who had a knife. Subsequently, shots were fired.

The man suffered unknown injuries and was taken to an area hospital. One police officer was treated and released by medical personnel at the scene.

The sheriff's office, Medina, Plymouth, Orono, Corcoran and Three Rivers Park police departments responded to the scene. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
