The boyfriend of a Columbia Heights woman was sentenced Thursday in the death of her 23-month-old daughter more than a year ago.

Ahmed F. Mohamed, 33, pleaded guilty in February to the second-degree unintentional murder of Sahra M. Abu.

He will serve 139 months in prison, with the possibility of parole after two-thirds of his sentence, said Paul Young, assistant Anoka County attorney.

On Dec. 5, 2006, police found Sahra dead in the apartment of her mother, Khadijo S. Ali, several hours after Ali left the girl and her four other children with Mohamed while she went grocery shopping.

A coroner's report found that the toddler died of massive internal injuries that included broken ribs and a torn liver.

Ali pleaded guilty in December to second-degree manslaughter in connection with her daughter's death.
