Minneapolis police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening in the Phillips neighborhood.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 8:39 p.m. and found a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds at E. 22nd Street and Oakland Avenue, according to police spokesman John Elder.

Officers administered CPR and offered other aid, he said, but paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.

The suspect fled, but police say they do not believe there is a threat to the public.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect and victim were familiar with each other, according to Elder.

The man's death marks Minneapolis' 22nd homicide of the year.
