A Falcon Heights man apparently shot the kitchen window of a Roseville Montessori school Monday afternoon before killing himself in the school's parking lot.

Roseville police were called about 3 p.m. regarding a shot fired at the Hand in Hand Christian Montessori School, 2129 Fairview Av.

Two school staff members were in the kitchen at the time but were not injured, police said. Students were getting ready to leave school and were not in the cafeteria at the time.

The officer, who entered the school's north parking lot, noticed a man sitting in a sedan and discovered he was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Investigators said the 48-year-old man apparently had made suicidal statements to a friend earlier in the day. St. Anthony police officers were attempting to make a welfare check on the man at his home when Roseville officers informed them that he was dead.

Investigators are trying to determine why the man shot one round at the school's kitchen window.
