A shooter is accused of killing a man in a St. Paul home, driving off from the scene and crashing nearby.
Spencer McAloney, 27, of Rosemount, was charged Monday in Ramsey County District Court with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder and illegal gun possession in connection with the death Sunday of Tarik Hazem Hassan, 32, of St. Paul, in an apartment in the 700 block of N. Victoria Street.
McAloney remains jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail ahead of a court appearance Tuesday. Court records do not list an attorney for him.
According to the criminal complaint:
Officers responded around 1:40 a.m. to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in the 700 block of N. Victoria Street and found Hassan with several gunshot wounds. They rolled him over and saw a handgun that had been under his body. Medics took over lifesaving efforts, but he died at the scene.
In the apartment were drug paraphernalia. A back bedroom appeared to have been ransacked. The apartment has been the subject of numerous complaints to police about drug dealing and use.
McAloney sped away from the scene in a car and soon crashed into two parked vehicles. McAloney was arrested with drugs in a pocket and a gun holster in his waistband. A handgun was on the driver’s side floor. After his arrest, McAloney declined to speak with investigators.
A witness said Hassan was a fentanyl dealer. There were more than 10 people in the apartment that night, including McAloney and Hassan.
