A 46-year-old man who stepped out of his pickup truck following an accident on state Hwy. 52 in Rosemount was struck and killed as he stood in the grassy median on Sunday afternoon, the State Patrol said.
John E. Ostrom of Fountain, Minn., had pulled onto the left shoulder of the highway north of County Road 42 after his pickup hit a topper that blew off a 1987 Jeep Wrangler in front of him.
Other vehicles stopped, too, and as Ostrom stood in the ditch, a car driven by Sheena L. Harris, 30, of Mazeppa, Minn., swerved to avoid traffic and hit him. Ostrom died at the scene, the patrol said.
Harris was not injured.
