A man was shot early Sunday morning in a St. Paul North End neighborhood and died of his injuries after being dropped off at Regions Hospital, according to the St. Paul Police Department.

The shooting is the city's 16th homicide this year.

Just before 5:30 a.m., police officers were called to Regions Hospital after an adult man was dropped off. The man, who arrived in a private vehicle, had been shot. He died after lifesaving measures performed at the hospital failed.

Officers identified a possible crime scene after learning the victim had died. They secured a location on the 100 block of E. Sycamore Street in the city's North End.

The forensics department was processing the scene, canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing witnesses on Sunday night.

The scene is being secured until Monday, said Steve Linders, spokesman for the St. Paul Police Department.

The circumstances that led to the shooting are under investigation. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Paul Police Department's homicide unit at 651-266-5650.

The victim will likely be identified Monday, Linders said.
