Man in wheelchair fatally struck while crossing at Minneapolis highway intersection

July 12, 2013 at 7:15PM

MINNEAPOLIS — Police say a man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by at least one and possibly two vehicles as he tried to cross a dark highway at a north Minneapolis intersection.

Authorities say the intersection on Olson Memorial Highway did not have a crosswalk or traffic signal. The driver of one vehicle that struck the man, as well as another driver, stopped to try to help the victim, who died at the scene about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Sgt. William Palmer tells the Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/1bvjhz7 ) police are looking into the possibility that a second vehicle also struck the victim.

The speed limit where the accident occurred is 40 mph.

The victim's name has not been released.
