The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said a pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train late Tuesday.

Deputies were called to the 7000 block of Munger Shaw Road in Grand Lake Township about 11:40 p.m. on a report that a man was hit by a southbound Canadian National Railway train. When they arrived on the scene northwest of Duluth, they found the 34-year-old victim, the sheriff's office said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death does not appear to be suspicious, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities continue to investigate.
