Man holding gun found shot dead south of downtown Minneapolis; no arrests

Police said a caller to 911 reported that the man "was holding a handgun."

A man was found shot to death early Sunday just south of downtown Minneapolis, police said.

Officers were directed to Park Avenue and E. 16th Street about 1:10 a.m. by a caller to 911 who said "the man was holding a handgun," a statement from police read.

The unresponsive man was declared dead by paramedics from nearby Hennepin County Medical Center.

Officer Corey Schmidt said the man "suffered gunshot wounds" and did not take his own life. The man's identity has yet to be disclosed.

No arrests have been made in the killing.
