A man attempting to avoid being captured by fugitive recovery agents was found dead of a gunshot wound Sunday afternoon in a house in Medicine Lake, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said

Agents had been talking with the man holed up in a residence on the 100 block of Peninsula Road about 12:40 p.m. when they heard a loud bang within the residence. The agents called 911 and deputies from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Plymouth police officers responded, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Responding officers entered the residence and found the man dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

No fugitive recovery agents were injured.

The sheriff's office, which is investigating, did not say why the man was being sought but said that foul play is not suspected.
