Man found frozen to death identified; Duluth officials say alcohol a factor

January 28, 2009 at 1:30AM

DULUTH - Officials have released the name of a 22-year-old Duluth man found dead in an empty parking lot.

The death of Scott Anthony Miner is still being investigated, but authorities said it appears he froze to death after he left a bar early Sunday. Temperatures in Duluth dropped to 17 below zero early Sunday, with the wind chill colder than 30 below.

Authorities also said alcohol may have been a factor.

Miner's mother, Kim Miner, says her son struggled to quit drinking and had undergone treatment for alcohol abuse. Court records show he pleaded guilty in September to driving while intoxicated.

Police say results of toxicology tests, expected in a few weeks, could shed more light on what happened.
