Authorities identified Sunday morning a man who died in a south Minneapolis apartment, but they have yet to say how he died or who might be responsible.

Gregory M. Washington, 50, of Minneapolis, was found dead about 6 a.m. last Tuesday in a third-floor apartment in the 1800 block of 5th Avenue S., according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

Washington lived about a half-mile southwest of where his body was found. A day after Washington died, authorities freed a 38-year-old man jailed in connection with the death.

"There were no obvious signs of a weapon being used," police spokesman John Elder said a few hours after the killing. "This may end up being a situation of blunt-force trauma."
