A man found dead in the middle of a Rochester street this week had been shot multiple times, and authorities are still looking for the suspect, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office said the victim was in his 20s and it has a preliminary identification of him.

However, it is withholding the man's name pending confirmation from the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

As the hunt for the killer and a motive continues, the Sheriff's Office did say in a statement that "this was not a random act of violence, [and] we do not believe there is an ongoing concern for public safety."

A motorist came upon the body about 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of SE. 45th Street, when the driver's headlights illuminated the man's body, said Olmsted County Sheriff's Sgt. Kirby Long.
