A mobile home caught fire in Annandale, Minn. -- the second blaze at that address in about six years -- and its sole resident was found dead inside, authorities said Tuesday.

The body of Devan Hawkinson, 63, was discovered in the home on Honeysuckle Lane after police and fire personnel arrived there Sunday afternoon, said Wright County Sheriff's Capt. Greg Howell.

Howell declined to say whether the fire was suspicious in nature. "That's all under investigation," he said. "We haven't ruled out anything."

A ruling on Hawkinson's cause of death is pending from the Midwest Medical Examiner's office in Anoka County.

Hawkinson lived in Eastview Mobile Home Park, just off Hwy. 55. The park's owner said Hawkinson had lived there for many years but knew little else about him.

Hawkinson's home also was struck by a Christmastime fire in 2004, and he told a community newspaper that his smoke detector saved his life.

In a conversation with Fire Chief Brian Haag, according to the Annandale Advocate, Hawkinson said, "I read the calendar you guys handed out, and it said I needed to change the battery in my smoke detector.

"I took the battery you guys gave me and put it in, the smoke detector woke me up and I got out the side door," he continued.

Authorities attributed the earlier fire to either Christmas tree lights or an electrical extension cord.
