A man working security at a bar and restaurant in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis was fatally shot late Sunday and police continue to search for the gunman.

Authorities have not identified the man, but family members in a Facebook and GoFundMe posting said he was Gabriel "Dino" Mendoza.

"It is with heavy, broken hearts that we share that our brother, son, uncle, cousin, nephew, friend Gabriel "Dino" Mendoza was murdered last night," his sister Ariel Mendoza Scaife said in a post Monday morning. "Our family is distraught. We never planned to have to make decisions about what to do with my 23-year-old brother's body."

Mendoza Scaife said her brother was working security at Fire House Uptown when he was shot about 11:45 p.m.

Officers went to the scene on the 1300 block of Lagoon Avenue and found Gabriel Mendoza suffering from a gunshot wound. He was lying inside the rear of the restaurant, said Minneapolis police spokesman Garrett Parten.

Police rendered aid to Mendoza, but he died at the scene before paramedics arrived, Parten said.

A message was left for Fire House Uptown seeking comment, but calls and emails had not been returned.

No one had been arrested as of Monday morning, Parten said.

Mendoza's homicide was the 72nd in Minneapolis this year, according to a Star Tribune database.

"He's not just a number, he's loved and missed by many," his sister said.
