Man fatally shot in south Minneapolis alley is ID'd

Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot behind his home in an alley between Nicollet Avenue and 1st Avenue in south Minneapolis two weeks ago.

No arrest has been made in the shooting on Oct. 18 of Julio Mozo-Cuate, 42, and a motive for the crime remains unknown, police spokesman John Elder said Tuesday.

The killing was among eight homicides that occurred in Minneapolis and St. Paul within a week's time.

Mozo-Cuate suffered "multiple gunshot wounds" about 10 p.m. behind his home in the 3700 block of 1st Avenue South and died about 1 a.m. the next day at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the medical examiner's office.

Mozo-Cuate's funeral was last Wednesday in Minneapolis, with burial in Morelos state, south of Mexico City.
