September 2, 2016 at 4:28AM

A 34-year-old man apparently drowned Thursday night at the Eden Prairie Community Center, authorities said.

Police and paramedics were called to the center at 16700 Valley View Rd. about 8:30 p.m. Bystanders, Community Center employees and rescue workers tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

The Eden Prairie Community Center recently updated its aquatics center. It includes two eight-lane pools with two diving boards, a zero-depth recreational pool, spa and water slide as well as other amenities. It was not clear which pool the man was in when he succumbed.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. The county medical examiner's office will release the name and official cause of death.
