A motorist died early Friday in Bloomington after he lost control of his vehicle and landed in a holding pond.
Devin Eric Gaines, 22, of St. Paul, was driving south on Hwy. 169 at a high rate of speed when he went off the highway at Anderson Lakes Parkway. His Jeep Grand Cherokee went airborne and struck a tree before landing in the water about 12:50 a.m., the State Patrol said.
Gaines, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle, the patrol said.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, the patrol said.
