The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent drowning after an unresponsive adult male was pulled from Lake Minnetonka on Wednesday evening.

Authorities responded to a medical emergency around 6:40 p.m. on the lake near Lafayette Bay involving a man in distress, said sheriff's office spokesman Jon Collins. Bystanders had pulled the man ashore when emergency workers arrived. Resuscitation efforts failed, and the victim died at the scene.

It remains unclear how long the man was submerged. Collins could not confirm whether he was swimming or boating on the lake.

The Hennepin County medical examiner will release the man's identity and cause of death after performing an autopsy.

The death was the second on Lake Minnetonka this summer.
