Two men died in separate crashes over the weekend in Nicollet County and Fridley.

On Saturday morning, Joel Miller, 31, of Nicollet, was operating a motorcycle westbound on Hwy. 99 in Nicollet County around 7 a.m., according to the State Patrol. When he approached the intersection of Hwy. 14, Miller hit the brakes, curved off the road and hit a sign, the patrol said.

Miller was not wearing a helmet, and alcohol was detected, the patrol said.

On Friday night, a 31-year-old man from Fridley died after being struck by a vehicle while walking across University Avenue NE. in Fridley.

The vehicle that hit him was heading south on University Avenue at 81st Avenue, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Officers responded around 9:40 p.m. and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver is cooperating with investigators. The Sheriff's Office, the patrol, Fridley police and the Midwest Medical Examiner's office are assisting with the investigation.
