A 44-year-old man from Northfield died Friday when he fell from a third-floor apartment window in Columbia Heights, according to police.

The man, whose name has not been released pending notification of his relatives, died of his injuries at the scene at 907 46½ Av. NE., despite first responders' efforts, according to Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

Sommer says there's a possibility that drug use occurred before the fall. Two witnesses told investigators the man fell through the window screen, he said.

The Sheriff's Office, Columbia Heights police and the Anoka County medical examiner's office are investigating.
