A man was found dead inside a house that caught fire Sunday evening in Eden Prairie.

Crews went to a residence on the 12000 block of Oxbow Drive east of Flying Cloud Airport after getting a 911 call about a house on fire. When they arrived about 7:15 p.m., crews saw smoke coming from the second story and learned someone may have been trapped, said Eden Prairie Fire Chief Scott Gerber.

Firefighters went in and found the man dead, Gerber said.

Neighbors tried to help put out the fire by using garden hoses until firefighters from Eden Prairie, Hopkins, Excelsior and Minnetonka arrived at the scene, Gerber said.

The name of the man has not been released. He was the only person inside, Gerber said.

"Our thoughts are with the family and community as they go through these challenging times," Gerber said.

It was not immediately known how the blaze started.
